This article describes the recommended cleaning and disinfecting procedures for your touchscreen and signage surfaces, as well as recommended cleaning and disinfectant products.
Always test your cleaning/disinfecting solution and technique in an inconspicuous area to ensure that it does not cause damage. It is recommended to schedule regular routine cleaning/disinfecting for your screens and signage based on the Canada Health requirements.
Cleaning and disinfecting are two steps. Cleaning removes dirt, grease, dust, and other contaminants. Disinfecting is a separate process that uses a chemical designed to destroy bacteria. It is recommended to do both on all surfaces, especially Touchscreens.
Touchscreen
- Any standard glass cleaner can be used but avoid highly concentrated alcohol (> 70%), non-diluted bleach or ammonia solutions, as these may cause discoloration.
- Select only non-abrasive cleaning wipes or cloths (micro-fibre is recommended) to avoid scratching touchscreens.
- Do not spray the screen directly with cleaner or water. Liquids sprayed directly on the monitor could possibly leak inside a non-sealed unit and cause damage. Instead, use wipes or spray your cloth directly and squeeze the excess moisture off.
- Wipe all surfaces and allow them to dry.
- Repeat steps 3 & 4 with a recommended disinfectant.
Stainless Steel
Stainless Steel requires periodic cleaning just as all materials do when in service. In most instances, a solution of warm water and soap is sufficient to restore the original finish.
In all cases, cleaning should be carried out using soft cloths or brushes. DO NOT use steel wool or other abrasive materials or cleaning products on Stainless Steel.
- Dampen a clean, non-abrasive cloth with the water & soap solution or your chosen cleaner. Ensure excess liquid is squeezed from the cloth and rub in the direction of the brush lines.
- Rinse thoroughly and wipe with a soft, clean & dry cloth.
- Repeat step 1 with a recommended disinfectant and allow the surface to dry.
Powder Coated
Cleaning is vital to preserving the overall aesthetic and extending the life of the paint. For best results, wait at least two weeks before washing.
- Use a soft cloth or sponge with mild, soapy water or a general-purpose household cleaner/mild detergent. Do not use strong solvents such as lacquer as they will damage the coating.
- Apply gentle pressure when wiping.
- Rinse the unit with a clean soft cloth & clean water.
- Wipe dry with a soft clean cloth.
- Repeat steps 1 & 2 with a recommended disinfectant and allow the surface to dry.
- Penetrating stains and marks should be attended to as quickly as possible. They may be removed by carefully using a non-abrasive cloth with your recommended cleaner and water or a solution of household bleach diluted with water. Never use sharp or metallic items to scrape off marks.
